Intermediate Honours Band weather update

The weather in having an impact on our weekend plans. School as been cancelled for this afternoon, therefore Honours Band is cancelled for Friday only. The Western School Board is providing a Bus for tomorrow morning, Saturday, to take students down to Charlottetown. It will be here at KISH around 8:15am. If the weather is not good tomorrow morning and the bus is cancelled, then the weekend will be cancelled. Next weekend is the storm date for Honours Band. We will cross our fingers for good weather tomorrow. If a cancellation is necessary for tomorrow morning, I will be calling Monica’s mom Sharon, and a message will go out to the rest of you. Also, I will update the blog with any details re: Honours Band.

Candlelight Dinner – Saturday, Feb. 11th doors open at 6:30pm New London Community Complex

Tickets have already been given to students to sell during band rehearsal. Most students received 4 tickets to sell. If you have sold your tickets please return the money to Cindy Ramsay.

Next week there is no Senior Band on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 30th and 31st.

Wednesday is a turnaround day so no classes for students.

Thursday and Friday, Feb. 2nd and 3rd is early morning Senior Jazz Band

Thursday, Jan. 26th final rehearsal. Two complimentary tickets were given to each student for the Intermediate Honours Band concert at Confederation Center on Sunday.

There is impending bad weather coming for tomorrow. I’ll update the blog with information on how the weekend will proceed, if there is an interruption.

Western School Board bus to leave KISH at 3:20pm. Students who are not staying down in Charlottetown, there will not be a bus returning to KISH. We will be stopping for supper at Wendy’s in Charlottetown for those students who wish to purchase a meal.

Intermediate Honours Band Weekend – January 27th – 29th

Upcoming this weekend is Intermediate Honours Band being held at Queen Charlotte Intermediate School, North River Rd, Charlottetown. Eight students have been selected fromKISH to attend this weekend. A package and email of information regarding the weekend has been sent home with students last week. Rehearsal after school this week on Tuesday and Thursday. Two complimentary tickets for the concert at Confederation Center (on Sunday at 3pm) will be sent home with students on Thursday. The concert at Confederation Center is open to the public. Also, performing at this concert will be the U.P.E.I. Wind Symphony.

2012 Candlelight Dinner – New London Community Center Saturday, Feb. 11th

Candlelight Dinner – will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11th – the Senior Concert and Jazz Band members will be helping out with this annual event, as well as, Parents. Jazz Band members are currently rehearsing musical selections for the evening. Senior Concert Band members that are not in Jazz Band, will be helping out with the set up and serving of the dinner event. This dinner is a Valentine Themed dinner and if you know of someone who wants to get engaged, we can arrange it. Choral group “Arioso” will also be performing on stage. Tickets for this event will be sold by band students or by contacting the KISH office at 836-8901. Ticket price is $25. Lianne Wadden BPA President will be looking for volunteers to help out with this event. Please let her know if you can help out. Wishing you all a good month.

Grocery Bagging opportunities to fund raise throughout the Christmas Season

The Senior Concert and Jazz Band members have 2 opportunities to bag groceries in the next 3 weeks. The following opportunities will exist over the next 3 weeks:

Saturday, December 17th at Save Easy in Kensington - students can sign up for a 1 hour time slot on either Dec. 17th from 10am to 7pm or they can sign up on Friday, December 23rd – from 10am to 9pm.

Saturday, December 31st (New Year’s Eve) at the Superstore in Summerside is the next opportunity for students to bag groceries. On this day, students can sign up for a 2 to 4 hour shift. The bagging will take place from 9am to 6pm.

Christmas Variety Show – Thursday, December 15th

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas . . . “ Ho, Ho, Ho, the annual Christmas Variety Show is Thursday, December 15th. There will be a dress rehearsal at 2:30pm on Tuesday, December 13th, for all the individual acts in the concert. The Concert and Jazz Band members will not have to attend the dress rehearsal on Tuesday, unless they are performing outside of these two groups.

On Thursday, December 15th the following schedule of events will be followed:

8:45pm – Christmas Concert for the Intermediate students

1pm – Christmas Concert for the Senior students

5:30pm – rehearsal for Senior Concert and Jazz Bands for the concert at 7pm. At 5:30pm – students will be doing warmups, tuning and run throughs of the musical selections. Setup on stage at 6:30pm. Concert to start at 7pm. Students are asked to be in full uniform for all 3 performances.

Come out and enjoy the wonderful sounds of Christmas at KISH. “O Come All Ye Faithful . . . “

Christmas Craft Fair update

Congratulations to all who helped with the KISH Christmas Craft Fair. Thank yous go out to Sandra Harris for overseeing this event for all parents and students. To the students, good job. The feedback was great from vendors and organizers on how well you did your jobs.

Annual KISH Band Christmas Craft Fair Saturday, November 26th

The annual KISH Band Christmas Craft Fair is Saturday, November 26th. Band students will help with the set up of the craft fair on Friday and with the running of the craft fair and tear down on Saturday. Sign up for the different positions will be in the Music Room. All Senior Band students are asked to sign up. Many hands make light work. It is a fun event that gets us all in the Christmas Spirit. Come out and join us for this festive day.

Christmas Wreath Fundraiser

It’s becoming that time of the year for the planning of Christmas. The KISH Senior Band students grades 8 to 12 are selling as a fund raiser Christmas Wreaths: i. Decorated = $16, ii. Undecorated = $13. The decorated wreaths come with either the choice of burgundy bows and berries, or red bows and berries. These wreaths are popular and really add to the decoration of houses and business’ for Christmas. Each band student has been given an order form. Deadline for orders is November 22nd. Students are asked to bring in their order form with money for all the wreaths they sold to the office. Delivery date for the wreaths is Friday, Dec. 2nd
